4 SIGG Bottles in the FAZ Test

The Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) conducted an extensive test to determine which water bottles are best suited for sports, leisure, and everyday use. A total of 62 water bottles for adults, made from various materials, were tested.

According to the FAZ, the focus was on the water bottles’ leak-proofness, ease of use, weight, and suitability for carbonated beverages.

Four of the models tested are from SIGG.

SIGG Shield One (stainless steel)

SIGG Shield One

The FAZ describes the SIGG Shield One as practical, lightweight, and durable. The water bottle is made of 90 percent recycled stainless steel. It has a single wall and is therefore not suitable for hot beverages.

According to the FAZ, cold and carbonated beverages stay cool for a short time, but over time the temperature evens out with the ambient temperature. The bottle is leak-proof, even with carbonated beverages.

The bottle opening is described as pleasantly wide, which makes cleaning easier. The FAZ notes that the Shield One is not dishwasher-safe and should be washed by hand.

SIGG WMB One (Aluminum)

SIGG WMB One

According to the FAZ, the SIGG WMB One, weighing just under 170 grams, is one of the lightest bottles in the test. It is made of recycled aluminum and is suitable for both cold and carbonated beverages.

The water bottle does not have a thermal effect, which means the beverage temperature adjusts to the ambient temperature over time. According to the FAZ, the bottle is leak-proof and does not impart any taste.

The review highlights the lid’s simple, one-handed operation. The bottle has a carrying handle that can also be used to attach it to a carabiner. It should be washed by hand.

SIGG Original Red (Aluminum)

SIGG Original Red

For users who don’t want to go without carbonated drinks on the go, the FAZ recommends the SIGG Original Red. According to the FAZ, the bottle made the best impression in this regard during testing.

The sturdy lid can be opened slowly and smoothly either directly or using the handle. Even if it hisses or splashes when opened, the bottle remained leak-proof during testing. The bottle is very lightweight and therefore easy to carry.

The FAZ notes that beverages should be below 40 degrees Celsius. Its insulation properties are described as not particularly strong. The mouth opening has a diameter of four centimeters and makes it easy to drink from.

SIGG Traveller (Aluminum)

SIGG Traveller

The FAZ describes the SIGG Traveller as a classic from SIGG. The water bottle features the typical twist-off cap with a loop, which can also be used for carrying.

In testing, the bottle remained leak-proof with carbonated water and was easy to open. According to the FAZ, cold beverages reach room temperature relatively quickly. Hot beverages were not filled into the bottle due to the aluminum construction.

Weighing 142 grams, the Traveller is one of the lightest bottles in the test. The mouth opening is slightly larger than that of standard PET bottles, yet drinking from it is described as comfortable.

Analysis of the FAZ Test

The FAZ tested water bottles under everyday conditions, and four SIGG bottles were included in the test. Naturally, we’re pleased with the results and evaluations.
